Acupuncture and Infertility
At OMBE, clients benefit from an integrated approach to fertility treatments. In addition to complete health history, clients should expect a comprehensive review of diet, exercise and lifestyle practices that play an important role in fertility. Acupuncture and herbal medicine treatments are customized according to each client's unique health history.
Follow-up sessions combine acupuncture with adjunctive therapies such as herbal medicine, nutrition, tui na, and cupping. We work closely with primary treating physicians to inform them regarding your acupuncture treatments and coordinate care when appropriate.
More About Acupuncture and Infertility
Acupuncture is an effective treatment modality for infertility and several women's health conditions. In addition to the treatment of infertility, acupuncture has been commonly used to treat PCOS, endometriosis, amenorrhea, menstrual cramps, irregular menstrual cycles, menopause symptoms, morning sickness, postpartum depression, ovarian cysts, uterine and breast fibroids.
Acupuncture treatments are customized according to each client's unique health history. Treatment protocols can vary greatly from patient to patient even if they have received the same or similar diagnosis. Therefore, we encourage all of our fertility clients to book a 20-minute consult with our acupuncturist before you schedule an initial acupuncture appointment.
Acupuncture and IVF
The combination of acupuncture with IVF, IUI, ICSI or other assisted reproductive technologies, is an example of how Western and Eastern medicine can be combined to improve fertility rates. A 2002 German study found that the combination of acupuncture and IVF resulted in a 42% clinical pregnancy rate compared to a 26% pregnancy rate in a control group not receiving acupuncture.
Following an appropriate course of acupuncture, patients have reported an increase in the number of follicles and embryos, thickening of the uterine lining, improved ovarian function as well as improved sperm count, motility and morphology. Additionally, patients report fewer side effects from medications, reduced anxiety and improved postpartum recovery.
