Benefits of the Pose
~ Relieves tired or cramped feet ~ Gently stretches the back of the legs, front torso and the back of the neck ~ Relieves mild back aches ~ Calms the mind ~ Can help with insomnia and balance hormone levels ~ Can reduce symptoms of PMS

~ This can be considered an inversion pose. So ask an instructor if this should be performed during menstruation ~ If your feet begin to tingle during this pose, bend your knees, touch your soles together, and slide the outer edges of your feet down the wall, bringing your heels close to your pelvis.
How to Get into the Pose
1. Viparita karani can be taken by laying on your back and scooting your hips up to a wall.
2. Extend your legs high and use the wall as support.
3. Alternatively, this pose can be taken in the center of the room by lifting the legs to the sky and placing a block underneath your sacrum as Allison is demonstrating.
4. Let your legs suspend upward without any muscular effort. Close your eyes and breath deeply. You can stay in this pose safely for up to 20 minutes.
Finish with your mantra: "I HEART Yoga because..."
