Benefits for Rolfing for Writers & Editors

From the desk of Joel Gheiler, LMT... The Rolf Method, or Rolfing, was designd by Ida P. Rolf, a pioneer researcher and biomechemist of the early 1900's who worked at the Rockefeller Institute of Medicine and later received her Doctorate from Columbia College of Physicans and Surgeons.

During her studies, Dr. Rolf made an amazing discovery: using steady and prolonged physical pressure upon fascia (the body's encapsulation tissue), one could release stressful holding patterns in organs, muscles and bones, allowing for a more upright and aligned posture.

The Ten Session Protocol that Dr. Rolf designed is delivered through the trained hands, knuckles, and elbows of a Rolf practitioner (without the use of oils or lotions), in order to balance and strengthen the body's natural healing mechanisms so that symptoms such as stress and pain are effectively alleviated.

The Rolf Method balances the various structures of the body (skeletal, muscular, digestive, respiratory and nervous), and works to bring them into a better functioning whole.

Joel Gheiler, LMT

Rolf Practitioner Licensed Massage Therapist

Joel Gheiler has been a Rolf practitioner for more than a decade.

Born and raised in Israel, Joel studied biology and chemistry at the University of Florida, and pursued his license in massage therapy (LMT) at Educating Hands School of Massage in Miami.

While studying massage, Joel was fortunate to receive a Rolf session, relieving him of an old hip injury. After experiencing the benefits himself, Joel earned his certification as a Rolf Method practitioner. He first studied at The Guild For Structural Integration in Boulder, Colorado and then went on to study directly under Emmett Hutchins, Dr. Rolf's first approved Rolfing instructor, in Kauai, Hawaii.

Joel believes that the Rolf Method is a powerful and effective approach that addresses clients' issues ranging from acute injury to chronic pain and rehabilitation. Many clients find regular Rolf sessions helpful in reaching their optimal physical well being. Joel's experience and passion for facilitating healing in others has brought him into contact with people from all walks of life: from athletes and yogis to professionals and many other members of our community. Joel's unique skill and sensitivity enables him to relate to every body type. With each person he sees, Joel seeks to do what Dr. Rolf intended: re-synchronizing the body's energy systems, thereby establishing the conditions under which the body is able to heal itself.
