The Power of Cleansing

Detoxifying your body to get rid of unhealthy toxins has been around for centuries and today there are endless cleanse options available to you that promise to help you lose weight, boost your energy and get rid of bad toxins. But what is a cleanse? And which one is right for you during these cold winter months?
What is cleansing? Cleansing is a process whereby you eliminate certain congesting foods and focus on eating a healthy diet consisting of traditional, whole, seasonal, organic foods. Cleansing is the perfect way to turn inward and reestablish your connection with your inner body and get back to basics. It’s what you leave out of your diet during a cleanse that allows your body to heal, regenerate and detox. A cleanse will help you break any bad eating habits and start again from the beginning. By eliminating the congesting foods and other toxins, you will also gain clarity on what your body really needs, not craves.
Why do you need to cleanse? Many of the chemicals you ingest daily through food, water, and air can become deposited in fat cells in our bodies. Toxins include pesticides, antibiotics and hormones in food, chemicals from food packaging, household cleaners, detergents, food additives, heavy metals, pollution, drugs, and cigarette smoke. And a diet that lacks certain key nutrients may impair your natural ability to detoxify from the toxins, which further leads to build-up in your body. This build up has been linked to hormonal imbalance, impaired immune function, nutritional deficiency, and an inefficient metabolism. A cleanse will help reduce the build-up in your body and lead to improved digestion, better concentration, increased energy, clear skin, and alleviate headaches, bad breath and muscle pain.
What’s different about the winter season? The winter season has it’s own chilly weather patterns and only certain foods are available. During the winter months, a gentle cleanses that allows your body to get the nourishment it needs to stay warm is ideal. Your body’s immune system changes with the seasons and weather. And there are foods that grow and are harvested during the winter months that help naturally build your immune system and give your body the necessary nutrients needed for this time of year. Cleansing during the winter with seasonal foods will allow you to be more in tune with nature.
Do you need to cleanse this winter?
