NEW: Childbirth Education Classes

From the desk of Jessica L. Molleur, Lic.Ac... We are so happy and proud to offer new classes and workshops for parents! Be sure to visit our website for current class and workshop offerings and sign up sooner rather than later. They are filling up quickly! In the meantime, we'd like to answer some common questions asked about our Childbirth Education Classes.

Q: How long does the Hypnobirthing class run?

A: Hypnobirthing is a 5-week class with each meeting running 2 1/2 hours.

Q: What is Hypnosis? How does Hypnobirthing involve Hypnosis with Birth? What if I can't be hypnotized?

A: Hypnosis has a confusing reputation but is actually an everyday state of deep relaxation or deep concentration. Chances are good you've already experienced the Hypnotic state but did not think of it as what we usually associate with Hypnosis. Hypnobirthing uses self-hypnosis to cope with the fear and anxiety we have surrounding the birth process. After several weeks of practice you have the opportunity to examine and shift your own personal images and beliefs around birth leading to a more positive and confident outlook. This outlook has a dramatic effect on the entire experience of the birth process.

All Hypnosis is self-hypnosis and your instructor actually cannot make you do anything under hypnosis you aren't willing to do. Most people can enter the hypnotic state provided they feel safe and comfortable with the situation and person guiding them. Your instructor will do her utmost to create a safe, comfortable environment.

Q: Do I need to take another (hospital based) Natural Childbirth Class in addition to Hypnobirthing?

A: No. Hypnobirthing is a full Natural Childbirth Class, and will cover the process and stages of labor, when to go to the hospital, and how to formulate a Birth Plan, which effectively communicates your needs and wants to your care providers.

Q: Will this class discuss interventions like epidurals and Cesarean sections?

A: Hypnobirthing itself does not include a section on medical intervention. The philosophy of the class is that you have within you all the knowledge you need to birth on your own. Rather than burden your mind with frightening pictures of procedures you are planning to avoid, we spend our time focusing on developing the techniques and confidence in your own abilities. However, OMBE's Hypnobirthing instructors can certainly answer questions regarding medical interventions, so if you have a specific question please ask. There will be time in the class for discussion of topics you are curious about.
